Diabetes and Exercise
Practicing Anulom Vilom, also known as Alternate Nostril Breathing benefits to reduce stress and both of which help control diabetes. This happens because this breathing technique helps improve oxygen supply through the body. Anulom Vilom is especially helpful in diabetes because it helps reduce cortisol in the blood. This action is similar to improving insulin sensitivity – important for people with Type 2 Diabetes.
Step 1 Begin anulom vilom pranayama by sitting straight on a mat. If you have back issues, sit against the wall. Take your right hand in Vishnu Mudra (Hold the index and middle finger against the palm and extend your thumb with the other fingers) & left hand in Dyana Mudra (The tip of your index finger should touch the tip of your thumb. Keep your other three fingers straight)
Step 2 Place your right thumb on your right nostril and inhale deeply through your left nostril.
Step 3 Close your left nostril with the tips of the little and ring fingers and exhale through your right nostril.
Step 4 Inhale from your right. Close your right nostril with the thumb, release the fingers from the left nostril and exhale from your left.
This is one round. Continue to breathe in cycle 3 times.
